Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this health insurance?
A: United Service Association For Health Care (USA+) is a non-profit association group. Membership in the association provides a variety of health savings and benefits. Membership in USA+ is NOT a health insurance policy. By becoming a USA+ Member, you have access to discounted fees on dentists, prescription drugs, vision care, chiropractors and alternative health care providers, as well as reduced contracted rates from doctors, ancillary medical facilities and more. However, membership benefits also include automatic coverage under certain group insurance policies issued to USA+.
Q: I’ve noticed other similar programs — how is USA+ different?
A: There are 3 unique reasons:
Reason #1 – USA+ has provided its members with benefits for over 18 years. We have documented savings of over $100 million for our Members in the last 10 years, based on reports from our vendor companies.
Reason #2 – USA+ offers both discounted healthcare savings AND insured benefits from A.M. Best rated insurance companies.
Reason #3 – You get an experienced and knowledgeable customer support staff, and you can be assured of excellent service provided with a positive attitude.
Q: Do I have to sign a contract to receive my benefits?
A: There is no long-term contract to sign when you become a Member of USA+. Payment of the one-time enrollment fee and your first month’s Membership entitles you to receive your Membership Card and all of the benefits it provides. If you find within 30 days that you are not satisfied with the benefits, you may request a full refund. Otherwise, you will be charged monthly for your Membership. You may cancel at any time.
Q: How do I make my monthly payments?
A: Monthly payments are made either by credit card (VISA, MasterCard, or American Express), or by electronic check from your checking account. You may change your method of payment at any time.
Q: When can I start using my benefits?
A: You can begin to use your benefits as soon as you receive your USA+ Membership Card. The Card and your Member Handbook describing all benefits and the procedures to use them will be sent to you by US Mail (First Class) within 7 – 10 business days after your enrollment date. Call USA+ Customer Service to register your card and to request all of the information you need to begin saving money with your benefits. If you find you need to use a benefit before you receive your Card, simply call USA+ to find out how.
Q: If I call a provider listed in the network, will they be familiar with USA+?
A: Because doctors and other providers have contracted with a number of networks, they may not always be familiar with the procedures of a specific network. Also, most providers will not be familiar with the USA+ name because they have contracted with the network itself, not with USA+. If you have a question about a provider being on the network and accepting your USA+ Card, USA+ is there to help. All of the information a provider needs to confirm your Membership and determine your fee is printed on your USA+ Card, and if there is any question, a quick call to Member Services will provide the answer.
Q: If I’m already being treated for something and the doctor is a provider in the network, will I still be able to receive the contracted rates?
A: As soon as you receive your USA+ Membership Card, you can begin to utilize the savings from any provider in the network. You will receive your discount savings right away, regardless of your previous health history.
Q: Will the doctor bill me for services provided?
A: To receive the contracted rate for services from a provider, you must pay the amount due at the time of service. The billing department will call the telephone number on your USA+ Card to verify your Membership, and access the contracted rate for services rendered. You are responsible to pay that amount at that time.
The exception to this may be medical facilities that have a billing office located elsewhere — in this case, the facility may send you a copy of the original bill that will also be sent to USA+; once the services performed are repriced at the contracted rate, an adjusted billing will be sent to you.
Q: Can I cancel my health insurance policy and use this instead?
A: USA+ is a non-profit association membership. This is NOT an insurance policy, or a replacement for health insurance. We recommend that everyone have a health insurance policy that provides coverage in the event of a catastrophic illness.
Q: My employer is providing me with the USA+ Membership — what happens if I leave the company?
A: Another great aspect of the USA+ Membership is that it is portable — that is, if your current employer is providing it as a benefit and you leave your job, you can easily transfer the Membership to an individual one with no transfer fee, no interruption in your benefits, and no increase in your monthly payment! Simply inform USA+ Member Services, and they will transfer your Membership.
